Head Coach Anibal

With over 35 years of fencing experience as both a professional fencer and coach, Anibal brings extensive knowledge, experience, and dedication to the sport. He moved to the United States in 2013 and is the owner and founder of South Brooklyn Fencing.

Prior to opening his own club, Anibal coached at fencing clubs in Brooklyn from 2013–2016, as well as at clubs in Princeton, New Jersey, and Campobasso, Italy. With more than 12 years of experience as a club coach, he has helped develop fencers of all ages and skill levels, guiding them toward success both on and off the strip.

Anibal’s coaching experience is reflected in the accomplishments of his students, who have won multiple medals and numerous awards at national and international competitions, SYC and RYC events, local tournaments, and other major fencing events. His students have consistently achieved podium finishes and competed successfully at some of the highest levels of the sport.

In addition to his coaching career, Anibal has been a FIE-certified referee since 2014, holding the highest level of international referee certification available. His experience as both a competitive fencer, coach, and international referee gives his students a unique perspective on fencing technique, tactics, rules, and competition.

Eduard Elterman

Maestro Eduard (Ed) Elterman
Former (for over 30 years) Fencers Club (FC) and New York University (NYU) Foil/Epee coach.

Joined the Fencers Club coaching staff in 1991 and for over three decades developed a strong fencing program for his students of all ages from the beginner level to the National Championships level. His students were winning SYCs (Y10, Y12,Y14), getting medals at Junior Olympics (Cadet and Juniors), NACs (Y10, Y12, Y14, Cadet, Juniors, Division IA, Division I, and National Championships. They were competing in the designated International competitions for Cadets, FIE World Cups for Junior and Senior levels. As Foil/Epee coach Ed joined the NYU coaching staff in 1990. Over the years he personally developed over 30 NCAA qualifiers and NCAA ALL Americans (First, Second and Third Teams). He has been a member of eight NYU coaching staff that earned University Association Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Ed retired from NYU in August 2022. As a fencer and a coach Ed was trained in the former Soviet Union (USSR) in Minsk, Belarus.
